Job Summary

Within the guiding principles of the Selkirk First Nation (SFN) Constitution, the Executive Department supports effective governance, strategic leadership, and organizational accountability across the Selkirk First Nation government. The department works collaboratively with Chief and Council, administration, citizens, and external partners to advance SFN priorities and strengthen governance systems that reflect SFN values, laws, and long-term vision. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Council and Executive Relations Liaison provides high-level coordination, governance support, and strategic administrative assistance to Chief and Council. This role ensures leadership is supported with accurate information, coordinated planning, and effective communication to support informed decision making and alignment between Council priorities and organizational operations. 

The Liaison acts as a key connection between Chief and Council, administration, governing bodies, citizens, and external stakeholders, supporting governance effectiveness, strategic alignment, and organizational accountability. The position is responsible for coordinating Council meetings and planning processes, supporting governance communications, tracking action items and follow up activities, and ensuring leadership priorities are reflected in organizational planning and operations. The role also works jointly with the Executive Director to support leadership development opportunities for Chief and Council and strengthen organizational coordination across departments. 

Experience

  1. • Post-secondary degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be equally considered.
    • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in administration, governance, executive coordination, or leadership support.
    • Experience working with First Nations governments or Indigenous organizations is highly preferred.
    • Strong understanding of governance, administrative, and decision-making processes.
    • Demonstrated experience coordinating meetings, strategic planning activities and executive communications.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
    • High level of professionalism, discretion, political awareness, and confidentiality.
    • Recognition of the importance of continuous learning and willingness to participate in ongoing training.
    • Proficiency using office software (e.g., MS Office).

• Attendance at General Assemblies, Council meetings, and Community Meetings
• Willingness to occasionally work flexible or irregular hours (i.e., evenings and/or weekends)
• Willingness to travel outside the community as required
