Reporting to the Child and Family Support Services Manager, the Child & Family Support Worker is responsible for helping in the organization of and participating in community development activities to promote awareness and responsibility for the safety and care of SFN children and support of families. This position ensures that workshops and activities delivered are culturally relevant and safe, and accessible by SFN families. No positions report to the Child & Family Support Worker. 

Education/Experience

• Completion of a secondary school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with an equivalent combination of training and experience will be equally considered.
• Knowledge and understanding of First Nation ancestry and culture.
• First Nations ancestry or extensive experience working in First Nations communities.
• Experience participating in and delivering community workshops and information sharing.
• Knowledge of Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience in event promotion and facilitation.

With ability to:

• Work as part of a team to deliver holistic and case management programs and services.
• Collaborate with outside agencies and individuals in a professional manner.
• Encourage others, by leading through example, to work towards healthy family lifestyles.
• Meet deadlines for workshop delivery and exchange of information.
• Communicate effectively, demonstrate good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Provide respectful and empathetic service to families that may respond negatively.
• Understand and use own stress management techniques, or ask for support, to control responses and prevent burnout.

Conditions of Employment

• Security Clearance / RCMP Criminal Records Check.
• Valid First Aid certificate.
• Comply with SFN policies and procedures.
• Signed Oath of Confidentiality.
• Signed Oath of Intoxicants.
• Willingness to occasionally work flexible or irregular hours, which may include evenings or weekends.
• Willingness to take additional training.
