Animal Care Worker

Job Summary

Reporting to the Animal Care Program Coordinator, the Support Worker is responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the community dog shelter, ensuring it is safe, clean, organized, and fully equipped to provide quality care for animals. The position contributes to community education, responsible pet ownership, and the overall success of the Animal Care Program.

Education/Experience

• Experience working in an animal shelter, veterinary clinic, animal welfare organization, or related environment.

• Experience with animal handling and basic animal care.

• Experience creating social media content (Facebook, Canva).

• Strong team-oriented approach with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members.

• Strong interest in animal care and welfare.

• Ability and willingness to perform basic animal care duties; training will be provided, including Pet First Aid certification and specific mentoring.

Working Conditions

• Employees may be required to work weekends

• Flexible hours

• Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Employment is conditional upon the ability to provide services safely and be able to lift 50 lbs.

Conditions of Employment

• Pet First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification within 3 months of hire

• Oath of Confidentiality

• Oath of Intoxicants

• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and maintain a clean driver abstract.
