Community Wellness

Home and Community Program

The Home and Community program supports Elders and individuals with disabilities, aged 65 and up, to maintain a healthy home life and independence through check-ins, transportation assistance, and collaboration with the health center.

Services offered:

  • Regular check-ins by support workers (twice a week)
  • Transportation assistance for health appointments and basic errands such as post office runs and grocery pick-up, providing Elders with a level of independence
  • Collaboration with the health center for holistic care
  • Additionally, future considerations are in progress for a hot lunch program to enhance community support

Temporary Income Assistance

Temporary Income Assistance aims to provide short-term support while assisting individuals in transitioning towards self-sufficiency.

Services offered:

    • short term support to assist citizens in their transition towards self-sufficiency through individual case management.
    • An intake worker will assist citizens by linking them with the training officer in Citizen Development, to explore training opportunities on their journey to self-sufficiency.

Wellness Program

The Wellness Program aims to promote healthy, active-living among Selkirk Citizens through a range of activities and programs tailored for youth, elders, men, and women. With close collaboration with the Health and Social Services Department and Health Canada, the program offers holistic healing practices, and support for truth and reconciliation initiatives.

Services offered:

  • Holistic healing practices, the Wellness department periodically brings a holistic practitioner to Pelly Crossing. Follow our Facebook page for alerts and updates on when the holistic healer visits Pelly.
  • Aftercare and recovery programs are in development and budget dependant. The Wellness department will strive to include land-based healing activities for those who can benefit from culturally-rooted and community-based support on their healing journey.
  • Support for truth and reconciliation efforts, including assistance for those affected by residential schools and intergenerational trauma. For more information contact Lena Joe at (867) 537-3331 ext. 408.
  • With our Reaching Home Initiative, we’re taking steps to combat housing overcrowding and provide vital resources for locals facing displacement. It’s about restoring dignity and offering essential support, like food and clothing, to those who need it most.

Child and Family Support Services

The Child and Family Support Services program focuses on strengthening families through comprehensive programming aimed at holistic well-being.

Services offered:

  • Programming targeted at building strong family units, encompassing all members
  • Nutrition education and support
  • Budgeting assistance to promote financial stability
  • Cultural programming, including activities like sewing classes
  • Development of parenting skills through specialized classes
  • Regular monthly events to foster community engagement
  • Childcare services including case management and collaboration with Yukon Government social workers to ensure safe homes for children and youth in need.
